九州大学生体解剖事件

(きゅうしゅうだいがくせいたいかいぼうじけん)

とは、

1945年に九州帝國大学医学部で米軍捕虜に対して生体解剖実験が行われた事件。相川事件とも言われる。
1945年5月、九州方面を爆撃に飛来したB-29が撃墜され、搭乗員のウイリアム・フレドリック少佐ら12名が捕らえられたが、西部軍司令部は、裁判なしで12名の搭乗員の内、8名を死刑処分とすることにした。
8名は九州帝國大学へ引き渡され、

生体解剖に供された。

8名の捕虜は収容先が病院であったため、健康診断を受けられると思い「サンキュー」と医師に感謝したという。

生体解剖

指揮及び執刀は石山主任外科部長で

1945年5月17日から

6月2日にかけて行われた。

また軍人5名がその肝臓を試食したとされる。

戦後、戦争犯罪として裁かれた。

ただし、

一部被告人は後に

自白の強要によって

捏造された事件である

と主張している。

ちなみに裁判では複数の被告人に死刑判決が下されたが、

獄中自殺した1名を除き減刑された。

遠藤周作執筆の小説『海と毒薬』は、この事件をモデルにしている

Etymologically, Vivisection refers to the dissection of, or any cutting or surgery upon, a living organism. More generally, it is used to describe any invasive experiment upon living animals, or any live animal testing, typically for the purpose of physiological or pathological scientific investigation.[1][2] The term is most commonly used by opponents of animal research.[3][4]
Vivisection has been controversial

since the 19th century

with physiologists expressing reservations much earlier. Sides, for and against, have formed over the years and are often deeply entrenched in their respective viewpoints. In 1655, physiologist Edmund OMeara is recorded as saying that the miserable torture of vivisection surely places the body in an unnatural state.[citation needed] OMeara thus expresses one of the chief scientific objections to vivisection, that the pain of the vivisected subject will interfere with the accuracy of the results. On the other side of the debate, those in favor of vivisection hold that experiments on living animals are necessary

to advance medical and biological knowledge.

In 1764, Voltaire, who was against vivisection, wrote the following in his Philosophical Dictionary:

Is it because I speak to you, that you judge that

I have feeling, memory, ideas?
Well, I do not speak to you; you see me going home looking disconsolate, seeking a paper anxiously, opening the desk where I remember having shut it, finding it, reading it joyfully. You judge that I have experienced the feeling of distress and that of pleasure, that I have memory and understanding. Bring the same judgment to bear on this dog which has lost its master, which has sought him on every road with sorrowful cries, which enters the house agitated, uneasy, which goes down the stairs, up the stairs, from room to room, which at last finds in his study the master it loves, and which shows him its joy by its cries of delight, by its leaps, by its caresses. Barbarians seize this dog, which in friendship surpasses man so prodigiously; they nail it on a table, and they dissect it alive in order to show the mesenteric veins. You discover in it all the same organs of feeling that are in yourself. Answer me, machinist, has nature arranged all the means of feeling in this ani
mal, so that it may not feel? has it nerves in order to be impassible? Do not suppose this impertinent contradiction in nature.
In 1822, in the British parliament, Richard Martin MP piloted the first parliamentary bill in the world to give animals a degree of protection in law. This first bill related to farm animals. The first to regulate animal experimentation in Britain was the Cruelty to Animals Act (1876). One of the people who campaigned to see the bill introduced was

Charles Darwin (1809-1882).

He said, in a letter of March 22, 1871 to Professor Ray Lankester: You ask about my opinion on vivisection. I quite agree that it is justifiable for real investigations on physiology; but not for mere damnable and detestable curiosity. It is a subject which makes me sick with horror, so I will not say another word about it, else I shall not sleep to-night. The bill remained on the statute books until the introduction of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act (1986).
From the early days of animal welfare legislation concerns were both for the relief of animal suffering and also for the moral health of humanity. The Victorians were particularly concerned that people should show good moral virtues such as kindness and concern for others. It was in Victorian Britain that the RSPCA (the worlds first SPCA - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) was formed. One of the founder members was William Wilberforce, who was also in the forefront of anti-slavery activism.
These Victorian concerns have formed a backdrop to ongoing debate throughout the 20th century and into current times.
The defenders of animal testing believe the differences between species to be very minor and not sufficient to invalidate the results obtained. They also say that cures for many illnesses have been found by the use of animal experiments.
The argument is often raised that animals themselves benefit from being experimented upon since these experiments can lead to veterinary medicines and procedures. The proponents of animal testing also argue that any medical advance for humans is worth the lives of any number of animals.
Focusing on the cruelty issues, SPCAs have been formed in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, The United States and other countries. Animal welfare organisations have fiercely debated the issues both scientific and moral and have developed an offshoot: the animal rights movement.
Focusing on the scientific issues, research departments have been set up in Europe and the USA to find as many non-animal methods of research as possible and to provide the information about these methods to scientists working within relevant fields.
Medical researchers experimenting on animals often express a wish that the general public had a greater understanding of the issues involved and say that every care is taken in safeguarding the welfare of the animals experimented upon.

Lewis, Albert Leffingwell, Carl Jung, George Bernard Shaw, Isaac Bashevis Singer, James Cromwell, Joaquin Phoenix, Paul McCartney, Persia White, Peter Singer, Jane Goodall, Tarek Hall, and J. M. Coetzee, among many others.

The main issues raised of an ethical nature against animal experimentation are:
It is cruel to inflict harm on an otherwise healthy animal.
According to some humanistic viewpoints committing acts of harm to an animal will cause the development of psychological callousness in those who habitually tolerate it. This psychological callousness may lead to ill mental health and social misbehaviour.
Some Buddhist, Jain, Hindu, and Christian theologies advise us to work actively to help relieve suffering in other species.
Actions of some experimenters such as those depicted in Unnecessary Fuss suggest that some researchers who are involved in animal testing, though perhaps not inherently more callous than the average human, will behave in ways that suggest a disregard for animal welfare, even when such behavior is not conducive to the experiment itself.
The ethical arguments for animal experimentation are:
An outright rejection of animal experimentation is ethically equivalent to an outright rejection of human use of animals. Anything short of an outright rejection is acceptance of the current system under which animal welfare is supported, and each experiment must have adequate scientific merit to justify the use of animals.
It would be cruel to cause harm to human beings by not using animals. Many patient groups of the terminally ill are staunch advocates of animal experimentation.

Religion is not always opposed to animal experimentation, The Dalai Lama, in response to questions after his address to the Society for Neuroscience (2005), voiced support for animal experimentation as long as it led to the greater compassion.
Animal experimentation actively works to relieve animal suffering by providing the knowledge necessary to develop veterinary cures.

There exists a further area of debate which combines some scientific and moral issues into one. This is the area of concern about humans who may be harmed as a result of trusting possibly inaccurate test results and consequently taking unsafe medication. One side believes that animal experimentation puts humans at risk and the other side believes the risk to be lessened by such experiments.
Experimenters are of the opinion that this particular objection to animal experimentation is invalid because the final test of any medication is a clinical trial on human subjects.

Much has been written about Ernest Hemingway, including discussion of his well-documented mood disorder, alcoholism, and suicide. However,

a thorough biopsychosocial approach capable of integrating

the various threads

of the authors complex psychiatric picture has yet to be applied.

Application of such a psychiatric view to the case of Ernest Hemingway in an effort

toward better understanding of the authors experience

with illness and the tragic outcome

is the aim of this investigation.

Thus, Hemingways life is examined through a review and discussion of biographies,

psychiatric literature, personal correspondence, photography, and medical records.

Significant evidence exists to support the diagnoses of bipolar disorder, alcohol dependence, traumatic brain injury, and probable borderline and narcissistic personality traits.

Late in life, Hemingway also developed symptoms of psychosis likely related to his underlying affective illness and superimposed alcoholism and traumatic brain injury.

Hemingway utilized a variety of defense mechanisms, including self-medication with alcohol, a lifestyle of aggressive, risk-taking sportsmanship, and writing,

in order to cope with the suffering caused by the complex comorbidity of his interrelated psychiatric disorders.

Ultimately, Hemingways defense mechanisms failed, overwhelmed by the burden of his complex comorbid illness, resulting in his suicide.

However, despite suffering from multiple psychiatric disorders,

Hemingway was able to live a vibrant life until the age of 61 and within that time contribute immortal works of fiction to the literary canon.

自殺（じさつ）は、自分の意思によって自分の生命を絶つ行為である。

自殺の歴史

自殺の歴史はとても古く、紀元前の壁画などにもその絵や記述が残されているほどである。

中国では、紀元前1100年ごろ殷王朝最後の帝である帝辛（紂王）が周の武王に敗れ、焼身自殺したと伝えられている。

また、古代ギリシャの詩人サッポーは入水により自殺したという説があり、他にもエジプトプトレマイオス朝最後の女王であるクレオパトラ7世はアクティウムの海戦に敗北した際に、オクタウィアヌスに屈することを拒み、コブラに自分の体を噛ませて自殺したと伝えられている。

手法や原因は異なるが、

失恋や

挫折、

不名誉感情（羞恥心）、

社会からの疎外感、

配偶者や親類の死亡などによる絶望感、失望感

から

自殺を試みるのは、

過去から現在に至るまで同じである。

戦時など非常時では

軍人や武力集団による民間人への虐殺、放火、略奪、強姦などが非常に頻繁に行われ、

その被害またはストレスから逃れようとする意図で自殺するケースが多い。

また、

願わない自殺を無理やりに強いられる名目上の自殺もある。

道俣の神とは言霊図に照合して物事の分岐点を明らかに確認する働きのことであります。

古代には「ちまた」という言葉がありました。

現代の日本語では「巷ではこんなうわさが飛び交っている」というように使っていますが、

もともとはこの「巷」というのは、

「道の股」というところから出てきたようです。

三叉路であったり、四つ角とか、交差点のようなもので、

いわゆる「辻」です。

「辻」のようなところは、かつては「巷」と呼ばれていた。

そして、古代の巷というのは、大変豊かな文化のステージだったようです。

例えば巷では市場が開かれました。『万葉集』だとか、『古事記』『日本書紀』などをひもといてみますと、市が開かれた場所は必ず巷です。

軽(かる)の市(いち)注1)という有名な市が開かれたのも巷であり、椿市(つばきいち)という椿の市が開かれたのもやはり巷なんです。

道が出会う、海の道と山の道が出会う、いろいろな道がありますけれども、その道が出会う「巷」が、物の交換が行われる市場になる。

そして同時にその市は古代には歌垣(うたがき)の舞台でもあったのです。

歌垣というのは祭りが行われて、そこで男と女が歌の掛け合いをして、見初めあえば恋やセックスが始まるという、そういう祭り的な儀礼的なものだったわけです。
巷はその歌垣の場であったとも言われている。
あるいは処刑場として市や辻が、あるいは巷が使われることもある。

さらには、柿本人麻呂の歌に出てくるんですが、

「巷」というのが

この世とあの世が出会う接点

の

ような場所になっている。

ですから

死者たちに出会うために、死者の声に耳を傾けるために、人々は巷や、あるいは橋の上に立って呼びかける。

亡き妻に呼びかけるとか、そういう歌が残されています。

巷というのは、いわば市であったり、歌垣であったり、

あの世へ向かう入口であったりする。

そういう多様な文化の場所だったと言われています。

「第６０回カンヌ国際映画祭」で２７日、日本映画の「殯（もがり）の森」（河瀬直美監督）が、最高賞に次ぐグランプリ（審査員特別大賞）を受賞した。１０年前、デビュー作「萌の朱雀」が、映画祭と並行して開かれている監督週間に出品され、新人賞のカメラドールを受賞し、「カンヌに育てられた」と話した河瀬監督。還暦を迎えた世界最大の映画祭に記念すべき新たな足跡を残した。【勝田友巳】
授賞式で、審査員長のスティーブン・フリアーズ監督がグランプリ作品を「モーニング・フォレスト（題名の英訳）」と告げると、会場から大きな拍手が起こった。河瀬監督は高揚と緊張の入り交じった面持ちで壇上に上がり、日本語でスピーチ。

「たくさんの困難があり、人はよりどころを求めるが、形のあるものでは満たされない。
光や風、先祖など目に見えないものに支えを見つけた時、人は一人で立っていけるのだと思う。そういう映画を評価してくれてありがとう」

と堂々と話し、再び大きな拍手がわき起こった。
「殯の森」は河瀬監督４本目の長編劇映画で、カンヌの主要賞の対象となるコンペティション部門への出品は、０３年の「沙羅双樹」以来２度目。今回は初めてフランスとの合作で、奈良市の田原地区で合宿形式で撮影した。日本の伝統的な自然観を背景とした自身の体験から培った死生観を、静かな物語に込めた。
映画祭期間中、「殯の森」の公式上映は２６日夜で、２２作品のコンペ作品の中でも最後だった。カンヌでは例年、序盤と最終盤に話題作を並べる傾向があり、上映順からも映画祭側の期待が感じられた。メーン会場のリュミエール大劇場で行われた公式上映では、終了後に総立ちの拍手が約５分も続き、好評だった。
河瀬監督は「日本人として恥じない内容の映画だと思っている。グランプリは、日本が大切にしなければいけないことを世界に発信できたということだと思う」と話していた。

CANNES, France (Reuters) - A hard-hitting Romanian movie set toward the end of the Communist era won the Cannes Film Festivals top honor on Sunday.
4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, directed by Cristian Mungiu, was the critics favorite to win the Palme dOr in the build-up to a glittering red-carpet ceremony that ended the 12-day movie marathon on the French Riviera.
The film tells the grim story of young student friends Otilia and Gabita, who are ruthlessly exploited when one seeks an illegal abortion.
But despite being set in the pitiless and colorless landscape of socialist Romania

the story underlines the lengths to which friends go to save each other.
Mungiu welcomed the international attention the award would bring to his and other small-scale productions.
I ... hope that this award that I am getting tonight is going to be good news for small filmmakers from small countries because it looks like you dont necessarily need a big budget and a lot of stars, he said.
4 Months was one of 22 films in competition, and beat a series of highly acclaimed pictures for the top prize as the worlds biggest film festival celebrated its 60th birthday.
They included Alexandra, by Russian art-house director Alexander Sokurov, and three U.S. entries -- No Country For Old Men by the Coen Brothers, Zodiac by David Fincher and Gus Van Sants Paranoid Park.

Critics praised the Cannes selectors for a competition lineup they said was one of the strongest in recent years. There were few outright duds, and, while many stories were dark, if not depressing, they also portrayed great humanity.
The nine-member jury awarded the runner-up Grand Prix prize to

The Mourning Forest,

a lyrical Japanese movie about grief directed by Naomi Kawase.

Best director was Julian Schnabel for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, based on the true story of French journalist Jean-Dominique Bauby, who suffered a stroke and was paralyzed yet managed to write a book using one eyelid to communicate.
I didnt see it as depressing, Schnabel told a news conference. I think Jean-Dominique Bauby was saying to all of us: I was dead when I had my body. I was blind. It took the harsh light of disaster to show me my true nature.
The prize for best screenplay was awarded to German-Turkish director and writer Fatih Akin for The Edge of Heaven, a cross-border story of love and reconciliation.
Best actor was Konstantin Lavronenko, who played the male lead in Russian filmmaker Andrei Zvyagintsevs The Banishment, another gloomy film that features an abortion.
Best actress was Jeon Do-yeon for South Korean competition entry Secret Sunshine, an emotional drama about a woman overwhelmed by loss.
The Camera dOr for first film went to Jellyfish, an Israeli-French production by Etgar Keret and Shira Geffen.
As ever, the limelight was frequently stolen by films and stars outside the main competition.
Angelina Jolie was praised for her role in A Mighty Heart, about the kidnapping and beheading of reporter Daniel Pearl by Islamic militants, and Michael Moore, winner of the Palme dOr in 2004, brought his provocative Sicko documentary to town.
George Clooney and Brad Pitt were on the red carpet to promote blockbuster Oceans 13, Irish rockers U2 performed for a large crowd while Kylie Minogue, Elton John, Sharon Stone and Naomi Campbell worked the nonstop party circuit.

Cristian Mungiu is a Romanian filmmaker born in 1968 in Iaşi. After studying English literature at the University of Iaşi, he worked for a few years as a teacher and as a journalist. After that, he enrolled at the University of Film in Bucharest to study film directing, which he graduated in 1998.
After graduation, Mungiu made several shorts and, in 2002, debuted with his first feature film, Occident. Occident enjoyed critical success, winning prizes in several film festivals and being featured in Director’s Fortnight at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival.

In 2007 Mungiu wrote and directed his second feature, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. The film was received enthusiastically, attracting critical praise and being selected in the official competition at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, where it eventually won the coveted Palme dOr, marking the first time that prize was awarded to a Romanian filmmaker.

朝日新聞（大阪・2002/03/20夕刊）の記事「あなたの謎とき隊」によりますと、
次のような作詞者不詳の三番の歌詞が歌われているようです。

保育士をしておられる花本さん(23)が、

日溜まりの公園で、暮れなずむ街角で、夜のしじまの中で、ひとり「童謡」を口ずさむ時、幼き日々が鮮やかによみがえる…。この番組では、皆様にとって懐かしい童謡の歌碑を巡ってまいります。

今回は、『どんぐりころころ』です。

一日一日と秋が深まっていく今日この頃、公園では幼稚園や保育園の子供達が一心不乱になってどんぐりを拾い集めています。

そのありさまを見ていると、昔、幼稚園の音楽の時間にオルガンの伴奏で歌った『どんぐりころころ』が無性に思い出されます。

『どんぐりころころ』は大正１０年に発表され、昭和２２年に『２年生のおんがく』（文部省発行）に掲載されたのをきっかけに、広く歌われるようになりました。

作詞者は、青木存義*。

作曲者は、梁田貞**です。

結局、どんぐりはどうなったのでしょうか？

このお話は「困った、困った」で終わってしまい、

その後のどんぐりについては何も語られていません。

池の底で朽ちていったのでしょうか。

それとも奇跡が起こって、無事に山に帰ったのでしょうか。

不条理な気もしますが、この中途半端な結末がかえって幼心に強烈な印象を与え、

『どんぐりころころ』を「心に残る童謡」にしているのかもしれません。

*青木存義　あおきながよし。国文学者。唱歌作詞家。明治１２年、宮城県生まれ。東京大学卒業後、東京音楽学校教授、文部省図書監修官を歴任。昭和１０年、死去。

**梁田貞　やなだただし。作曲家。音楽教育家。明治１８年、札幌市生まれ。明治４５年、東京音楽学校声楽科卒業。在学中から歌曲の作曲をしていたが、大正２年、『城ヶ島の雨』で一躍脚光を浴びる。東京府立一中、成城学園、玉川大学で教鞭を執った。他の代表作には、『とんび』（葛原しげる作詞）などがある。昭和３４年、死去。

ドングリ
ドングリ（団栗）はブナ科のクヌギ・カシ・ナラ・カシワなどの果実（正確には種子ではない）の総称で、狭義にはクヌギの果実を指す。内部の種子の大部分を占める子葉はデンプン質に富む。

小動物の食料や、日本の古典的な玩具の材料になる。例えばヤジロベエや独楽（コマ）など。

ドングリは樹種により多様な形状があるが、一つの種類に属しているドングリ複数個を並べて比較した場合、いずれの樹種であっても形状はほぼ同一である。このことから、抜きん出たものが存在しない集団を指して、「団栗の背比べ」と言う。
「団」は「まるい」という意味を持ち、団栗は「丸い栗」という意味になる。

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese state media on Sunday blasted a Pentagon report on Beijings

plans as misleading and insulting, and said China had to pursue military modernization to avoid falling further behind the United States.

while Beijing remained focused on the Taiwan Strait as a potential flashpoint,

it also appeared to be looking to project its growing military strength elsewhere.

Beijing has yet to give a formal

to the report, but the ruling Communist Partys newspaper and other state media signaled Chinas rancor.
While Beijing and Washington have been cooperating on North Korea and other international crises,

the tough words underscored the distrust

that overshadows military perceptions on both sides.

This report continues to make outrageous comments about Chinas

and military strategy and its military capabilities, and attacks Chinas

and military modernization, said a commentary in the Peoples Daily.

The report ignores the facts, deliberately exaggerates the so-called Chinese military threat, and is totally unsupportable.
The Pentagons annual report to the U.S. Congress on Chinas military power said Beijing maintained its traditional focus on the Taiwan Strait, the self-ruled island divided from mainland rule

To a large extent, Chinas military gap with developed countries is not shrinking but continuing to expand.
In March, China said it would boost

spending by 17.8 percent to about $45 billion in 2007. But the Pentagon report cited U.S. intelligence estimates that Chinas total military-related spending for 2007 could really be between $85 billion and $125 billion.
The Bush administration had requested $484.1 billion for the

Department in the fiscal year starting from October 2007, a figure that does not include military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The United States is advancing its military transformation with great fanfare, seeking an absolute military advantage, said the Peoples Daily.
